General all purpose soil suggested use is 1 cup of pumice to every 5 cups of soil.
We pre screen and wash all our pumice to ensure it arrives to you looking nice and providing a consistent size for your soil.
Why is Pumice better than Perlite?
more sustainable: pumice is a volcanic rock that is naturally occurring vs perlite (mined)
Pumice is better for drainage (has a more porous structure than perlite)
Best way to prevent root rot (rot occurs due to “overwatering” a plant that is in soil that doesn’t contain pumice)
Pumice is better for aeration. (that porous structure that more porous than perlite = more air circulation to the roots)
Pumice having better aeration =it is able to promote healthy root growth and development.
Pumice is healthier for people too! Perlite breaks down into a fine powder very quickly and than can be VERY damaging to your respiratory system
Pumice is heavier, so it is less likely to float away when you are watering your plants.
Pumice is more durable. (that fine powder it quickly breaks down into is because it's brittle and fragile)
Pumice is REUSABLE and will not break down within our lifetime
Make the switch from pumice to perlite your plants and people will be all the healthier because of it!
